Talking and Listening

Hear the  sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to You do I pray. —Psalm  5:2

Prayer is so  simple; it is nothing more than talking to God and listening to what He has to  say. God wants to teach each one of us to pray and hear His voice in personal  ways. He wants to take us just the way we are and help us discover our own  unique rhythm of prayer and develop a style of prayer that maximizes our  personal relationship with Him. He wants prayer to be an easy, natural,  life-giving way of communicating with Him as we share our hearts with Him and  allow Him to share His heart with us.

God is far too  creative to teach every person on Earth to interact with Him through prayer in  exactly the same way. He is the One Who designed us all differently and  delights in our distinctiveness. All of us are at different places in our walk  with Him, we are at different levels of spiritual maturity, and we have  different types of experiences with God. As we grow in our ability to talk to  God and listen to His voice, we need to continually say to God, “Teach me to  pray; teach me to talk to You and listen to You in the ways that are best for  me. Teach me to hear Your voice on a personal level. God, I’m depending on You  to make me effective in prayer and to make my relationship with You through  prayer the richest, most rewarding aspect of my life.”

God’s  word for you today: You are God’s  unique creation. Celebrate that in your life and in your prayer.
