Created for Greatness

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10, NIV.

It’s easy to go through life thinking that we’re average; we’re ordinary. “There’s nothing special about me. I’m just one of the six billion people on earth.” No, when God created you, He put a part of Himself in you. You could say that you have the DNA of Almighty God. You are destined to do great things, destined to leave your mark on this generation. The truth is, there is nothing average about you; but too many times we don’t realize who we are. We focus on our weaknesses or what we don’t have. We focus on the mistakes we’ve made or the family from which we’ve come. We end up settling for mediocrity when we were created for greatness!

If you’re going to break out of average, you need to remind yourself every day, “I have the DNA of the Most High God. Greatness is in my genes. I come from a bloodline of champions.” If you’ll have the attitude of a champion, you’ll live the life of a champion and boldly embrace the blessings He has in store for you!

Father, thank You for preparing me to do the good works You have prepared. I am not average. I am not ordinary. I am created for greatness, and I belong to Almighty God. Thank You for Your faithfulness in Jesus’ name! Amen.

Speak God’s Mind

Hear, for I will speak excellent and princely things; and the opening of my lips shall be for right things. —Proverbs 8:6

One of our biggest mistakes we make is that we sometimes answer people too quickly, just giving them something off the top of our head. Only a fool utters his whole mind (See Proverbs 29:11 KJV). Those who speak frequently and hastily are always in trouble, as the Bible says, “There are those who speak rashly, like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing” (Proverbs 12:18).

Jesus operated in wisdom. He always knew just the right thing to say, at just the right moment, to astound everybody. If we don’t spend enough time with God, we will say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Decide to wait on God before speaking your mind today.

Speak God’s Mind

Love Expects the Best

“Love … never stops hoping.” 1 Corinthians 13:7b (GW)

Lasting love expects the best.

It’s forward looking. It’s optimistic. It’s not stuck in the past. It’s not always looking backward. Lasting love is hopeful. The Bible says, “Love … never stops hoping” (1 Corinthians 13:7 GW). The Living Bible translation says love will “always expect the best.” The Message paraphrase says love “always looks for the best.” The poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning said, “Whoever loves believes in miracles.”

Have you noticed that people tend to live up to your expectations of them? We shape the people around us by what we expect of them. You set people up all the time. You set your wife up by what you expect of her and what you don’t expect of her. You set your friends up by what you expect and what you don’t expect.

Whatever you want the people in your life to become, treat them that way — not the way they are.

Guys, you want your wife to treat you like a king? The solution is real simple: Treat her like a queen. Emphasize the positive. Forget the nagging. Tell it like it is? No. Tell it like it can be. Start expecting the best from each other.

A family in our church went over to Chili’s after one weekend service. The waitress was very kind and asked their little boy, “Now, what would you like, sir?” After she took his order and walked away, he said, “Mommy, she treated me like I was a human!”

Love never stops hoping. Love expects the best.

Talk It Over

• How have you seen your high expectations met in others? What about low expectations?

• From whom in your life do you need to expect the best?

• What are the things you hope for in your relationships? Do you expect God to provide those things?
